DRAWINGS & PAINTINGS

I try to seize every opportunity, both within and outside of class, to explore my game interests. Art, like any other media form, should be expressive and communicative. So I use my skills to tell stories beyond flat colors.

I also make illustrative art for the stories and novels I write. The following pictures all belong to the same story that I am currently posting on a Chinese website called LOFTER. So far I have written 520,000 words and accumulated 210,000 views.

VOICE ACTING & NARRATION

As a game lover, I enjoy myself in a variety of voice-acting performances. I am fluent in English and Chinese, and I am currently teaching myself Japanese. The following samples cover a few of my different voices spoken in different languages. I hope you find them fun to listen to.

I am partnered with the Southwest Associated University Museum (Kunming, China) to record their English audio tour. This is a separate project from the educational interactive game I made in collaboration with the same museum. Here is an example clip. The project is still a work in progress but will be released by the end of next year at the latest.

ORIGINAL MELODY

I took half a year of piano lessons when I was in second grade in elementary school but never learned anything professionally ever since. However, my passion for music persists. I have written small pieces like the one below, "messing around" and teaching myself how to play the instrument during my spare time. I have not played much piano recently but I have been and will certainly continue navigating the realm of music as it plays a vital role in supporting good gaming and digital narrative.

Please excuse the poor sound quality. I could only record with my phone in the student lounge.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Aside from the above-mentioned, I am also a fan of photography. Here are some examples of my work.

SECTION CONCLUSION

I often consider myself a Renaissance (wo)man who, according to dictionary.com, is: "a cultured man of the Renaissance who was knowledgeable, educated, or proficient in a wide range of fields." I am nowhere near the level of expertise of those great scholars and artists. However, I indulge myself in exploring a multitude of knowledge in both analytical and creative realms.

It is a common conception that the right and left brain hemispheres work independently and one half controls emotions while the other masters reasoning. Yet it is believed that the human brain works cohesively and each part is in constant communication with the other. This fact is related to one of my core beliefs that arts and sciences work best in collaboration.

As someone who has a foot in both doors, I wish to use video games as a bridge that connects studies across different fields. In a way, I speak both the arts and sciences language. I am more than thrilled to continue creating multifaceted products that will inspire everyone.
